I feel like, okay, why not entertain this as a thought experiment, but my question is how that would actually look in practical terms- how would it be done in a way that doesn't look a lot like, I don't know, unpaid internships or the publishing industry where the only people who can afford to do the work are people who are independently wealthy or have a lot of generational wealth behind them? Who in 2024 is earning enough to make a living and put in this kind of work on the side?
right! Ministry is a calling - and we should get paid for it.
I'm ever more convinced that it's the structure - the *way* we think about what ministry is - that's holding us back, making us plod along. And lose our energy and passion. AND get paid less and less, as fewer and fewer people come to church.
there are new ways to think about what ministry is. Personally, I think of myself as a creative solopreneur, bringing the Good News of God's love to those who need it. It definitely changes my energy, and taps into my passion. And I get paid for my ministry appropriately.

Right. So right! I would say this also changes - can change - the relationship between clergy and congregation, and how we serve together.
